March Madness starts tomorrow. The Sounders are playing in Spokane tonight, which has never happened before. And Pig Out in the Park is done forever. One of those weeks where a lot is happening at once. Let's get into it.

📰 The Headlines

Pig Out in the Park Is Done. 44 Years.

Bill Burke started Pig Out in 1979 with a leftover stage from Expo '74 and a simple idea: free admission, good food, live music. It grew into one of the most iconic Spokane events ever. Nearly 4 million people came through over the years. Burke is turning 75 this year and said it was just time. "I will miss everything about it," he told the Spokesman. The Six Bridges Arts Association board agreed. If someone else wants to pick it up, Burke says he'd help, but for now it's over. That one stings a little.

Train Dreams Went to the Oscars

The film was shot right here, parts of it in Spokane, Metaline Falls, Tekoa, and Colville. It got nominated for four Academy Awards, including Best Picture. Didn't win any of them on Sunday night, but a Washington-made film at the Oscars is still a big deal. If you haven't seen it, it's worth the watch.

That Windstorm Hit Harder Than Expected

Last Wednesday's storm knocked out power to 61,000 Avista customers across Eastern Washington and North Idaho. Gusts hit 68 mph in Spokane County. Trees down everywhere, power lines, the whole thing. Silver lining: the ski resorts got dumped on. Schweitzer saw up to 20 inches. If you lost power and are still dealing with tree cleanup, you're not alone.

💰 Deals That Don't Suck

Olive Garden Buy One Take One

Buy a select entrée for $14.99, get a second pasta dish to take home free. That's two dinners. Running now through the end of March. Not the most Spokane-local deal in the world, but stretching a dollar is stretching a dollar.

Early Season Golf

If you haven't been out yet, courses are opening up and early spring rates are the best you'll see all year. Downriver, Indian Canyon, and MeadowWood are all playable. Go before everyone else remembers golf exists.

Spokane Chiefs — Home Games This Week

Chiefs have home games this week and student/military discounts are always available. If you haven't been to a game this season, WHL hockey is a genuinely good time for the price.

That's your signal. Go Zags. Enjoy the Sounders tonight. And raise one for Pig Out.
